Lives and Memories from Alcântara

Taking very seriously the motto “people make the library,” the preparation for the opening of the Alcântara Library in Lisbon involved processes of listening to and engaging with the community. It was at that moment that Media Shots became involved with the Alcântara neighborhood and its residents. We produced a film for the library’s inauguration, but that was not all. We worked with students in schools on multimedia projects in which democracy was the key word. We also collaborated with the Senior University, where we created a course called “Lives and Memories of Alcântara,” and coordinated the collection of life stories from the neighborhood — a project in which we supported the library.
