About This Project

The declaration of Fado as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO led Media Shots to work with EGEAC/Fado Museum in a survey of collective memory. We produced digital stories with high school teachers, recounting their unique encounters with this musical style.

The project then extended to classrooms. For example, in one school, several generations of the community came together for an emotional performance in which the younger ones shared their discovery of this common heritage.

TESTIMONIALS

“I think you have been exceptional in your support, camaraderie, patience, and friendliness. I felt very comfortable in all the sessions, and I would love to participate in more sessions where you are the trainers in the future. You managed to establish great empathy and motivate me to use what I learned with my students. Top marks for the facilitators!

Antonieta Reis,
Teacher at Dª Luísa de Gusmão Secondary School

“It was worth it. I learned a lot… really a lot… I grew as a person through the sharing of knowledge, in the collective experience of frustration and joy. I learned things that were unimaginable to me – using stories from my life to illustrate syllabus content, making a movie and sharing teaching experiences.
